At Compass Rose Healing Arts, we begin with a different understanding of healing.
We do not believe you need to spend your life examining your wounds. We do not believe every painful experience needs to be excavated, analyzed, or repeatedly retold in order to be healed. And we certainly do not believe that your past should become your identity.
We believe healing happens in present time.
An experience may have happened five, twenty, or fifty years ago, yet some part of us may still be living according to what was learned in that moment.
The eight-year-old who learned she had to earn love may still be trying to earn it as an adult. The young person who learned that being fully themselves resulted in rejection may still be performing, pleasing, hiding, or adapting in order to be chosen. The person who experienced betrayal may enter every new relationship expecting betrayal to happen again.
The event is over.
But what was created because of the event may still be very much alive.
We cannot erase what happened. But we can change what continues to live because it happened.
This is central to the healing philosophy of Compass Rose.
We Do Not Need to Re-Traumatize Ourselves to Heal
There is an important distinction between acknowledging our history and living inside of it.
My approach is not what I call forensic healing. I do not believe we need to continually return to the scene of an experience, reconstruct every detail, or repeatedly expose ourselves to the emotions surrounding it in order for meaningful healing to occur.
There are times when clinical trauma therapy and careful exploration of the past are appropriate and necessary. Compass Rose does not replace that care.
Our work offers something different.
We begin with what is present.
What keeps repeating?
What still hurts?
What are you afraid will happen again?
Where are you abandoning yourself, protecting yourself, diminishing yourself, or responding from an earlier version of who you were?
What belief about yourself or life is still operating even though the circumstances that created it are long gone?
The past often tells us it is still asking for healing through the life we are living today.
That means we do not necessarily have to go looking for it.
The Soul and the Human Experience
My understanding of healing is also rooted in my spiritual understanding of the human experience.
I understand each of us to be a Soul having a human experience. Our challenges, relationships, disappointments, losses, trials and initiations become opportunities for the evolution of consciousness.
This does not mean suffering should be romanticized or that painful experiences should simply be called blessings. Some experiences are profoundly difficult.
But what happens next belongs to us.
We can learn.
We can come to acceptance.
We can develop compassion and wisdom.
Sometimes we discover gratitude—not necessarily gratitude that something painful happened, but gratitude for what we came to understand, reclaim or become through our healing.
And sometimes forgiveness becomes possible. Forgiveness of another, forgiveness of ourselves, or forgiveness of the younger version of ourselves who simply did not know then what we know now.
This is how an experience can become part of our wisdom without remaining the author of our lives.
Healing the Person You Were From the Person You Are Now
When I work with someone, I am interested in the person sitting before me today.
Because within that person may still be the child who was frightened, the young woman who was abandoned, the man who learned he could never show vulnerability, or the adult who experienced an event that fractured their sense of safety, worth, belonging, or trust.
Those aspects do not need judgment.
They need to be met from the consciousness available now.
With intention, mentorship and deep, gentle healing work, we can bring present-day awareness to something that once overwhelmed us. We can introduce choice where there was once powerlessness, understanding where there was confusion, love where there was rejection, and sovereignty where we once learned to abandon ourselves.
The person we are today can become part of the healing of the person we once were.
Healing Within This Lifetime
Through my years of healing work, spiritual guidance and intuitive knowing, I have also come to understand that healing may extend beyond the experiences of this lifetime.
Within my spiritual framework, the Soul carries an evolutionary journey. Patterns, wounds and experiences may have origins we cannot always explain through our present biography alone.
I do not believe we need to become preoccupied with discovering every past-life story.
The same principle applies:
Heal what is presenting now.
If something carried forward is affecting this life, it can be met in this life. We have an opportunity, while embodied and conscious, to resolve what is ready to be resolved and to free ourselves for a different experience of the future.
For me, this is one of the most beautiful possibilities of healing: that what is transformed today may become part of the evolution of the Soul itself.
What We Are Creating at Compass Rose
Compass Rose is a place for people who are ready to participate intentionally in their own healing and transformation.
Our work is client-centered, nurturing, intuitive and pragmatic. We honor the emotional, physical, energetic and spiritual dimensions of the person without forcing a particular belief system or predetermined healing path.
We meet what is ready.
We work with what is present.
And we keep our attention on where healing is meant to lead.
Because healing is not the destination.
Life is.
Being able to love without continually defending against yesterday. Being able to make decisions from wisdom instead of an old wound. Being able to recognize your own value without requiring someone else to validate it. Being able to experience purpose, relationship, joy, peace and possibility without the past continually determining what comes next.
We are not trying to erase your history.
We are helping you become free enough that your history no longer has to determine your future.
That is our philosophy of healing.
That is the work of Compass Rose.
