The heart behind the journey
Meet Gabe
Gabe was born in 2001 following a difficult birth. The prognosis from doctors was bleak and discouraging. Yet today, Gabe is an engaging and perceptive young man who challenges conventional beliefs about communication, ability, and independence.
Gabe faces significant challenges that require extensive daily support. He does not communicate through spoken words, but from the very beginning, he has shown that he has a great deal to say. He is a deep thinker with an incredible memory and a wonderful sense of humor.
His life has not been typical or easy, but Gabe continues to show those around him that there is so much more to a person than what we can see. His ability to connect, his resilience, and his perspective invite others to look beyond labels, limitations, and outward appearances.
Gabe's life is a powerful reminder that a person's worth and potential cannot be measured by conventional definitions of ability.
In Jean's words
What Gabe Has Taught Me
"Gabe is a large part of why I am so passionate about supporting other parents on this journey.
For so long, I was focused on trying to help heal his body, while he was trying to help me see beyond it.
He has helped me understand that there is so much more to a person than a diagnosis or the limitations others may see. Gabe doesn't believe there is anything about himself that needs to be healed. He has taught me to see the whole person."
