The evolution of Reiki
Reiki has continued to unfold through different forms, teachings, and energetic frequencies.
Reiki was reintroduced in 1922 through Mikao Usui, during a time when the world was still recovering from the loss and trauma of World War I. Usui Reiki offered a vehicle for healing, self-awareness, and the beginning of a more conscious relationship with energy.
Over time, additional Reiki streams and related teachings emerged, including Karuna Reiki and Angelic Reiki. Each can be understood as part of a larger evolution in how people work with healing energy, compassion, intuition, spiritual awareness, and service.

Because Usui Reiki traditionally includes symbols, intention, and the practitioner’s awareness, there is often a mental or directional aspect to the work. This structure can be helpful, especially for students who are new to energy healing and want a grounded way to begin.
Usui Reiki emphasizes healing the self first. From that foundation, a student may begin to support others through hands-on Reiki, distance Reiki, and a growing relationship with intuition and energy.
